Vision
To educate the most vulnerable and orphaned children with Biblical concepts of who they are in Christ Jesus. All while maintaining the highest academic standards – including being able to speak/read English in all subjects.
“How do you influence change in a nation?” We believe the answer is not just education, but a strong foundation in Jesus and the Word of God as well as English studies. We have seen that the significant influencers in Tanzania are those who speak English. All those who hold government and top business jobs speak English.
Our vision is to raise up a generation of young people who are firmly grounded in their relationship with Jesus Christ, and who have received the best education. This will enable them to take up positions of influence in every area within their city or region, or country. This is a big dream, but we serve a big God!
History
HofN opened its 1st English Medium Pre-School in Kamala, just outside of Kigoma, in our Vocational Training Center. Kamala village is one of the most impoverished areas in our region – which is why we targeted this area first.
We continued adding one class per year. After four years, we ran out of space at the Training Center, so we asked God for a new campus. Our new K-7 school is built, and our students are scoring in the top 5% of the nation. Now we have had two classes of seventh graders graduate who have all qualified to be placed at government schools.
Today
We provide scholarships for 85% of our 225 students. 2 meals a day are provided along with 8 hours of the best education in the Kigoma region. The trained and certified national teachers help the children know that their school is a safe place and a place they learn to respect themselves and others.
Many of the children at our school are from the poorest of poor families, and some are orphaned. These children would not receive any education if HofN did not provide a school in their village. Two meals a day are provided for the students. For 80% of the children, these are the only meals they receive each day.
Serving meals also provides jobs for some locals in the area of food prep. All of our teachers are nationals who have been certified through teachers training college. Some were even put through secondary school and college by HofN. Again, this provides jobs and training for nationals.
Government schools are overcrowded with 60 to 80 students in a classroom and only one teacher. They have little or no supplies and not enough desks for the children. In most classes, a blackboard is the only teaching tool they have. HofN has offered many teachers training sessions at the government schools and has even helped with some supplies.
The Hope of the Nations New English Medium Pre and Primary School offers an excellent education with only 24 students in each class. The medium we use is English – total emersion. It is incredible to see our 200+ students growing in Jesus and becoming very proficient in English, as well as their academic studies. Through our partners, we provide scholarships for the poorest of poor children and orphans.
We have over 200 students between Kindergarten and seventh grade. A Primary School in Tanzania includes grades 1-7 before going to Secondary School, where all of their studies switch to English. Our students will be miles ahead by starting English in Kindergarten. God has also opened the doors for some teachers from the states to come out and help empower and train our national teachers!
