Hope of the Nations has a Training Center in Kamala village just outside Kigoma where we are based. Kamala is a village of 7,000 people who are some of the poorest in our region. Many husbands leave their wives and move onto wife number 2,3, or more due to religious beliefs, or they die from HIV/AIDS. Both of these leave the women with the responsibility of making a living for their families. Many of the women have never had a chance to attend school, so their options are very limited. Sewing or making jewelry has given them a way to feed their children. The products they make at the Training Center are sold in town or in our own shop, which is at the front of the Training Center. Our graduated students have become the teachers of the incoming students as a way to give back to the program and every class also involves the women in weekly Bible study.
Many women have gone through the program and are now able to make a living by sewing clothing, purses, bags, and other accessories – even the uniforms and backpacks for our Pre-School and Primary School. They also create custom items for visitors to Tanzania. These visitors also have the option to purchase custom items in bulk to take back home to be sold.
